An epic "tail" of love and learning

I know. Quite the claim, right? I don't want to lead you on, or anything, but I really do think I have a great tale of love and learning to share with you. And it just might turn out to be epic. My whole life, my brother and I dreamed of a dog to call our own. We begged and pleaded and begged some more, but my parents just wouldn't budge. My mom grew up with dogs and always sentimentally reminisced about those good old days, and my dad claimed he loved dogs. And that he was allergic to them. Debatable. Either way, I'm a big girl now, and I decided it was time to take matters into my own hands and make that desperate kid (who walked other peoples' dogs and didn't even care about scooping because she was with a dog (!!) ) inside me maaad jealous. This past summer, I finally found the most amazing and incredible furry teddy bear to call my own! She's named after Lady, the Cocker Spaniel in the Disney classic, "Lady and the Tramp" (see below) who is obviously, at the very least, her distant cousin. So basically, my dog's a celebrity. I didn't just luck out with a movie star lookalike for a pet. Since I adopted her, Lady has changed, enriched, and wreaked absolute havoc on my life. She is crazy, lazy, sweet and sometimes smelly and has the most incredibly endearing personality. Maybe this journey is just what every new dog owner experiences, but to me, it truly has been "epic". Whenever I think I've surpassed the learning curve, Lady shows me a new side of herself, and since she became a part of my life, she's shown me new sides of myself, too. Just writing this post was difficult, because there was a nuzzling, nudging, fur-ball lying on my stomach, just dying for some love. When I catch a yawn from her, I consider just how natural that has come to feel. I can't even imagine that there was a time when it wasn't a no-brainer that there would be someone jumping around excitedly when I get home, running away just to come back with a toy in her mouth and her little nubby tail wagging wildly, as if it were about to fall off from excitement. Or that I didn't used to thank G-d on a daily basis for the creation of a treat releasing toy. But those days were not too long ago! I'm still learning and discovering more about this amazing creature who shares my home, and just how incredible having her has made my life. I'm also figuring out about being a dog owner, bit by bit. Everyday, I love her more, and she is just too funny for me to keep her stories all to myself. So here, I'm hoping, you'll be able to find out more about my first time dog owner experiences, and learn more about Lady, too! I would also love to hear any advice or tips anyone else may have about the issues we encounter. Thanks for stopping by, and I hope I get a chance to tell you all about Lady, and how I have become her Tramp!
